HISTORY SINCE 1998
Anawak started in 1998 with its Mexican founder Ana Cihuacoatl as soloist singer in different types of ceremonies around some states of the Mexican Republic: Oaxaca Mountains with the Mazatecos natives, Huichol sacred spots in North Mexico, Central Mexico States with Aztec and Lakota tradition from the U.S., Teotihuacan for 5 years in a row in the Aztec Ceremony "Danza de la Luna" (Dance of the Moon). Ocuilan, Mexican State for 5 years in a row in the "Danza del Sol"
(Sundance) (Aztec and Lakota Traditions). Zipolite International Beach, Oaxaca for 15 years in a row with Aztec dance and Native singings.
It is from 2003, when Ana Cihuacoatl started to perform the ceremonial singings in the stage. She did it in several performances of the program “Art Everywhere” in Mexico City and in the Institute of Humanities and Science. From this moment ANAWAK, in order to enrich the singings with another variety of drums and percussion instruments, invites musicians and dancers interested in disseminate and keep investigating this music gender.
Anawak started its international activities:
Live radio performance and 3 concerts in the XVIII Festival International de Musique Universitaire (Eighteen International University Music Festival) in Belfort, France. “Café Babel” and in the “Centre Pompidou” esplanade of Paris, France. Ana Cihuacoatl carried out, with a singing and fire guide, the ceremony of the summer solstice in the “Debod Egyptian Temple” in Madrid, Spain, and she also performed as guest singer in the Tetraktis Percussion Project in Mexico City.
Release of its first album “Cuatro Águilas” (Four Eagles) in National Anthropology Museum in Mexico City
Release of its second album “Primer Sol” (First Sun) in Ancestral Awakening Tour with Ac Tah (Mayan Walker) being part of “A minute for Mexico” peace movement.
